Feed Your Pony

Fire Safety

Knowledge of possible causes of Stable fires. Know what to do if you find a fire. Recognise basic fire fighting equipment. Be aware of what you can do to help prevent a fire.

Foot Care

Recognise and point to three parts of the foot. Know how and why to use a hoof pick and skip bucket. Know how and why ot aply hoof oil. Know if the pony has been shod or unshod.

Grooming

Recognise and use;

Hoof Pick (assisted), Dandy Brush, Rubber Curry Comb, Mane Come,Sponge,Water Brush

Horse Clothing

Recognise at least two types of rug. Recognise at least two types of exercise boot. Recognise a tail bandage. Know how to fasten a rug. Have knowledge of how to measure your pony to fit a rug.

Mucking Out

Recognise and use manure scoops, skios, rubber gloves, yard brushes, wheelbarrows. Be able to skip out a stable safley when pony is tied up. Assist with sweeping the stable yard and correctly storage of tools. Assist with picking up droppings from paddock as part of a grassland managment regime.

Points Of The Pony

Show and name six points of the pony.

Poisonous Plants

Find and identify four poisouous plants.

Draw, label and colour a picture of each or pick samples pick and label.

 

Pony Behaviour

Th recognise a pony when it is angry, happy and sad. To understand how ponies live in the wild as part of a herd. To have knowledge of saftey around a pony.

Road Rider

To have the knowledge of; Basic Signals. Saftey Equipment. Where to ride and what to take with you. To syllabi for the Progressive test, Bronze Award 1 ,2 and 3 should be used.

Working Dogs
